Over the years we have had great compliments from all of you about how much you love our wines and happy that we use Wisconsin and northern cold hardy grapes to make our wines. We have also had requests to expand our product offering to grapes grown in other regions. We have mulled this request for years, then began the process to bring these new wines over 5 years ago. When we started the process we decided that we would take a unique approach to satisfying your requests. Many wineries in the Midwest purchase grape concentrate or whole grapes that sit in a semi trailer for a week before they are received, not ideal for making great wine. The best way to make great wine is to grow great grapes, harvest them at the peak of ripeness and have a great winemaker craft the grapes into wine immediately after harvest. This is what we do at Staller Estate and we did not want to compromise our standards to bring a new wine experience to our customers. So how did we do it, move Staller Estate, build a new winery, buy an established winery? None of these (we are passionate about wine, but not crazy!). Since Wendy studied wine making at UC Davis in California, she made many acquaintances with winemakers from around the world. We decided that we would build relationships with great grape growers and great winemakers in different grape growing regions to make great wines from different grape growing regions. This allows us to have the best conditions (grow great grapes, harvest them at the peak of ripeness and have a great winemaker craft the grapes into wine immediately after harvest) for providing to you great wines.
This is how we will be introducing a new category of wines called Staller Estate, Reserve Selections. These Reserve Selections will be from many different regions within the US and outside the US. Each Reserve Selection wine will be a limited release, when its gone it will be gone forever. We may certainly have the same varietal and or style of wine produced from the same vineyard and winemaker but will be a different vintage. Our goal is to provide great quality wines and new wine experiences from distant grape growing regions, here at Staller Estate Winery in Wisconsin. We plan to only release one or two wines as Reserve Selections each year and each will be accompanied by a special release event.
The first Reserve Selection wine that we will be releasing is one of the most requested; a California Cabernet Sauvignon. More Specifically, this is a 2010 Sonoma County Cabernet 13.7% alcohol by volume, barrel aged followed by 3 years of bottle conditioning before we have released it to you. We are very excited about this wine as all the work over the years to combine great grapes with great winemakers has paid off in one of the best Cabernet’s I have ever enjoyed.
We will be releasing this wine on May 3rd, 11-6pm while supplies last. We hope to see you there!
