I’m a cool guy!
That is like asking which of my children is my favorite. They all have their unique qualities and favorable attributes. For example, Richmond Rouge is great when I want a light and fruity red with a fresh cappresee salad or just by itself chilled or on ice on a hot summer day. Then there are the wines that take a little longer to mature like the Reserve La Crescent and Estate Reserve. The extra time with oak and balancing it out is really worth the wait. Then you get to our Ruby Classico, this is my favorite when relaxing in front of the fire after shoveling 10″ of snow.
It depends on what I am pairing it with, remember we are in Wisconsin so pretty much every meal has cheese incorporated in it. I have a soft spot in my heart for Blu Cheese, fig jam, and Release 5. Montemore crumbled on top of spaghetti (with Estate Reserve), Apple Smoked Cheddar for grilled cheese (Whitewater Rush), maybe even mix in a little Habanero Jack to spice it up a little (Ice Wine comes in handy here, it balances out the heat)
Toscano and Dried Salami. Toscano has the perfect balance of spice and aging that really help with the depth and complexity of the cut. Dried Salami on fresh bread with a thick coating of butter, reminds me of my childhood.
That is hilarious! So funny I almost peed my pants! Visit the winery and you will see why!
First and foremost, I am a Wisconsinite from birth. I grew up in Germantown but always frequented the Whitewater area to visit family. Growing up, my heart was always here in rural Walworth County.
Fall, my most fond memories are from working on the dairy farm in the fall. After the first frost most of the nasty bugs are gone an it is a pure joy to work outside. Hunting season, when I was younger, always excited my expectation of a potential trophy buck harvest. But now it is the grape harvest that gets my heart pumping. All the hard work throughout the summer to grow excellent grapes in anticipation for the wine that they will make at harvest is realized in the fall. Every year is a great reward.
I get to work with the love of my life, Wendy and we get to teach our children the value of hard work. Oh yeah, I also get to have a free glass of wine once in awhile.
